Demand for lawyers rise by 36% across the North West

Vacancies for private practice lawyers across the North West have risen by 36% month-on-month according to new survey data from specialist recruiter, Clayton Legal. The firm believes the rise in advertised positions can largely be attributed to a buoyant property market which is fuelling demand for conveyancing professionals across the region.

The survey, which was compiled based on the recruiter’s comprehensive data on advertised roles, reveals that residential conveyancing fee earners, paralegals and assistants have been the most sought after professionals. This is in keeping with recent survey data from the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) which reveals that, in July, 29% of surveyors saw houses prises rise in the North West in comparison to many other regions which saw a decline. Elsewhere, Clayton’s data reveals that family and probate solicitors were also in demand across the region – two specialisms that the recruitment consultancy has noted steady requirements for over the past few months.

Commenting on the results of the data, Lynn Sedgwick, Managing Director at Clayton Legal said:

“It’s perhaps unsurprising that vacancy levels in the region are rising – after all, Manchester and the surrounding areas are a main beneficiary of the Northshoring trend with a series of major firms now based here including Eversheds and Addleshaw Goddard, amongst others. This, coupled with the buoyant property market, has meant that conveyancing professionals are not only highly sought after, but they are also able to command lucrative packages as firms grapple for the very best talent. And at a time when demand is outstripping supply in some locations, we are increasingly advising firms on their talent pipelining strategies to ensure that they have access to the right talent – both now and in the future - to contend with increased workloads.”
