Tyne and Wear's RDA secures contract for new HSBC headquarters in Birmingham

RDA, the Tyne and Wear-based design and installation company, has Tsecured the contract to design and install the catering facilities at the new HSBC UK headquarters in Birmingham.

The team worked with the contract caterers, HSBC and project management company Mace to develop the catering design before winning the fit-out contract.

RDA will now create a new restaurant, two new coffee shops and a hospitality kitchen to service the whole building.

Designed to appeal to all of its employees, the project will feature the use of plants throughout with vibrant colours, geometrical fabrics and tiles, multi-functional seating areas and eating spaces and two terraces with outdoor counters and a barbeque terrace.

Part of the new Arena Central development in the centre of Birmingham, the 210,000-sq ft, 10 storey HSBC head office is due to open in early 2018.

Nick Bradley, director at RDA said: “We are delighted to have secured the contract on HSBC UK’s head office.

“This has already become one of Birmingham’s mostly widely recognised buildings and we are looking forward to working with the main contractors, Galliford Try to create beautiful catering spaces for HSBC employees to enjoy.”

Andrew McGarva at Galliford Try added: “RDA were suggested to us due to their involvement in the design of the catering areas of the project.

“Although this is the first time Galliford Try have worked with them, we have found their team to be extremely knowledgeable and helpful in overcoming some of the challenging design quirks of the building and we are looking forward to the commencement of the works on site, and to see what I’m sure will be a high-quality installation.”
