Hays Education in Birmingham helps spread mental health awareness in schools

Hays Education, the leading recruiting expert is supporting schools in Birmingham by sharing advice and insights on how to approach mental health within an education environment.

As part of the Hays Education Mental Health Awareness Roadshow 2017-18, Hays Education hosted a session on ‘A Whole School Approach to Good Mental Health’ in partnership with The Broadway Academy in Birmingham, where over 100 local school leaders, teachers and special educational needs and disabilities coordinators attended.

Providing an overview and understanding of different approaches to promoting and supporting good mental health in schools, the session was led by special education needs and disability expert Anita Devi.

Commenting on her session, Anita said: “Throughout the morning attendees were provided with advice, guidance and examples for recognising the importance, impact and influence of good mental health and well-being in their schools. We had over 100 leaders from schools and further education actively reflecting on their whole setting practice – how to enhance relationships and create space for children and young people to express their feelings.

Education leaders who attended have responded to the debate and challenge of changing the way we promote mental health and support mental illness and it’s fantastic to see that more education leaders are engaging in the discussion. The roadshow has provided schools, colleges and other providers an opportunity to consider the provision available for all children and young people, as well as any additionality required for some.“

Hannah Hackett, Senior Manager, at Hays Education in Birmingham said: “It’s great to be able to provide a thought provoking topic such as mental health awareness for our schools and their staff. Hopefully the breakfast session provided pertinent and useful information for attendees to take back with them to their roles and education settings.”
