Armsons take fledgling quantity surveyor under their wing

Derby-based cost consultants, quantity surveyors and project managers Armsons, are supporting the development of young talent with the appointment of Reece Kersey as trainee quantity surveyor.

Reece (19) studied for a Level 3 Professional Construction BTEC at Derby College before transferring to Stephenson College in Coalville and is now working towards obtaining a Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Professional Construction whilst gaining experience at Armsons.

Completing the course alongside his work at Armsons will enable Reece to apply his learning in a practical setting.

In his new role, Reece will gain experience all aspects of the business, from administration to the production of cost reports and client liaison. He will also shadow the three directors who work on a diverse range of projects.

After obtaining his Level 4 Certificate, Reece hopes to study for a Level 6 Higher National Diploma at Stephenson’s College or follow an RICS accredited university course in quantity surveying and commercial management.

Commenting on Reece’s appointment, Steve Fernie, director of Armsons, said:

“We’re very happy to welcome Reece to the team and support him with his studies. It’s great to see young people who are interested in the industry. Reece is doing well and shows real promise. We look forward to help him achieve his ambition of becoming a qualified chartered surveyor.”

Speaking of his new role and opportunity with Armsons, Reece said:

“I’m really excited to have joined Armsons - everyone has made me feel very welcome in my first couple of weeks.

“As Armsons is an RICS accredited firm, there is a great opportunity for me to develop essential skills and hands on experience that some full-time university students may miss out on.”

Armsons was established by Michael Armson in 1972 to offer specialist quantity surveying expertise to private and public sector clients across the region.

Over the past five decades, the business has expanded its service offering considerably in keeping with the changing face of the construction industry.

The firm has been involved in a series of award-winning schemes, including the transformation of the historic Roundhouse on Pride Park into a £51m engineering, technology and construction campus for Derby College, Glasshouse College – Ruskin Mill Land Trust, a College for young people with learning and behavioural difficulties, housed in the former Royal Doulton glass-factory in Stourbridge’s Glass Quarter and the 400 Hall, a flexible performance theatre for Repton Hall School.
