Newcastle accountancy celebrates major turnover with new client wins

A North East accountancy firm has seen its turnover grow by 25 per cent in the past year, with significant new client wins and ongoing recruitment.

Leathers - The Accountants, headquartered in Newcastle with an office in Durham, is now braced for further growth after a strong 12 months of business.

As well as a series of new client wins - alongside some significant projects for existing clients - Leathers has recruited at all levels of the business to help equip it for the future.

The firm was founded 28 years ago by managing partner, Michael Leather. It is said to be well known nationally despite being based in this region alone; at least half of its work comes from outside the North East, particularly London.

Michael Leather said: “We have some major clients in London and the South East, as well as a number based overseas, and the fact they instruct a firm in the North East, when they are spoilt for choice in advisors on their own doorsteps, is a huge endorsement of our work.

“We are a very strong team with many of our senior people joining us at an early stage of their career, and we are committed to continuing to offer opportunities to young people, so they too can develop their careers at Leathers.”

The business is regarded as a bespoke tax planning firm and trusted advisor to family businesses, property owners and high-net worth individuals, winning the vast majority of its work through referral and recommendation.

Leathers’ recent recruitment drive looks has continued recently with six new appointments in four months, including apprentice and graduate level. The business was also boosted in 2017 with the appointment of Tim Mallon as development director.

Michael concluded: “We pride ourselves on providing an unrivalled, first-rate service to clients, while being accessible and approachable.

“We describe ourselves as ‘people who advise people, in business and in life’, and I think that is what continues to set us apart in the field and is a big reason why so many of our clients have been with us for many years.

“This is an exciting time for us, and, supported by the continual investment we make in our team and business as a whole, we are well positioned to continue to grow and take advantage of future opportunities.”
