Barratt Homes starts work on new affordable homes in Cardiff

Work has begun on 53 new affordable homes in the Cardiff area with five star housebuilder Barratt Homes working in partnership with United Welsh Housing Association to build the new properties.

Barratt Homes, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, is set to support more than 150 jobs at the site which was formerly Phoenix Brickworks.

Speaking at the groundbreaking event, Barratt Homes managing director Steve Williams said he was pleased that the skills and expertise of the housebuilder were being used to help create much-needed affordable housing in the area.

“As a leading housebuilder in South Wales, Barratt Homes is committed to building a wide range of homes and working with partners such as United Welsh Housing Association to transform this brownfield site into attractive housing,” said Steve. “Our staff are on site now and we hope to complete the development in the spring of 2019.”

Group chief executive of United Welsh Lynda Sagona said, “We are delighted to be able to work with colleagues to provide much needed affordable homes in an area of Cardiff which has great transport links.

“The Phoenix site had been abandoned and derelict for more than a decade so it is great that we are able to bring it back into use in such a positive way with 53 new properties and we look forward to seeing individuals and families living there.”
