Sutton shopping centre launches revolutionary gym

Sutton’s largest shopping centre is giving customers the chance to build a workout into their visit, with the launch of a revolutionary new gym.

The sixth store in the Sweat! chain of gyms, has opened its doors within Debenhams at The St Nicholas Shopping Centre and is the first Sweat! gym in the country to be sited within a shopping environment.

And not only can members take part in workouts and group exercise activities, with state-of-the-art exercise and health monitoring equipment, but they can also enjoy cross promotions and incentives at Debenhams.

Along with high spec Technogym equipment, immersive cinematic exercise activity and digital health check points, Sweat! members receive support from personal trainers and can take advantage of the latest, wearable, performance tracking technology.

The Sweat! launch is among a number of initiatives aimed at enhancing the experience of visitors to the centre, which also relaunched its cinema earlier this year.

The independently owned Empire Cinema underwent a multi-million-pound refurbishment and is now a state-of-the-art complex, with 10 screens, luxury seating and includes the latest cinema technology.

Toilet facilities have also undergone a complete refurbishment to include a family room with baby feeding and changing facilities, mixed disabled and baby change in both the men’s and women’s toilets and a comfortable and relaxing waiting area.

The centre is home to some of retail’s best loved brands, such as Next, Pandora, Smiggle, New Look and Goldsmiths, and offers customers a choice of cafés and a unique street food concept which is currently being developed.

Based on Level 3 of the centre, it is currently home to three outlets; Sugar and Spice, Roti Masters and Bangkok Pad Thai, each offering fresh and authentic cuisine.

“The face of retail centres such as St Nicholas is definitely changing,” said centre director Gavin Waller, “and quite rightly the emphasis is very much on improving the customer experience.

“Everyone leads such busy lives that they are increasingly time poor, so the more we can offer them, under one roof, the easier it makes life for them.”

“What, in essence, we are offering is somewhere people of all ages and interests can come, where parking is easy, which offers free wifi throughout and which caters for as many tastes and interests as possible.”
