Leeds designer sets cap at international expansion

Yorkshire flat cap designer Kempadoo Millar is looking to expand internationally through support from the Leeds city region scheme ExportExchange.

Located in the AW Hainsworth woollen mill in Stanningley, Kempadoo Millar specialises in the design and manufacturing of Yorkshire flat caps and baker boys using traditional local tweeds.

Founded in 2013 by Rhian Kempadoo Millar, the fashion company already has high profile customers including Prince Charles, Idris Elba and Anthony Joshua, and is looking to expand on its overseas trade by joining the local scheme.

ExportExchange is a free-to-join overseas trade network for Leeds-based SMEs looking to expand their international business activities, connecting fledgling exporters with local firms to share knowledge and expertise.

Talking about the company’s involvement with the Leeds scheme, founder Rhian said, “We’re excited to be part of ExportExchange because it will enable us to receive first-hand advice and support from businesses that have so much more experience of successful exporting than we currently do.”

“We have been developing our export strategy for five years now and it’s an area where we see huge potential for growth. We’ve had particular success in the US, which is now our largest overseas market.”
