School's out at the Rivers Hotel
A NORTH East hotel is offering guests the chance to go back to their school days with an innovative new seating space.
The Rivers Hotel, at Green Lane, Gateshead is known for its stunning views of the River Tyne and colourful American-inspired restaurant, Davy Duke’s Diner.
And now, guests visiting the hotel for a bite to eat can make the most of a yellow, American-themed bus outside the venue.
The bus, which has been fully converted to include rows of diner-style booth seating, can also be hired out as a meeting space for those looking to add a twist to their corporate events, for parties and for private dining.
John Heron, managing director at St Camillus Leisure, which owns the Rivers Hotel, believes the bus was great appeal.
“We are always looking for new ways to improve our guests’ visits to the hotel and when we got the opportunity to acquire the bus, we knew we couldn’t say no,” said John.
“We really wanted to keep in with the theme of the American diner, so making it into our own take on the yellow school bus seemed like the perfect option.
“It has been popular with people of all ages due to the stand-out design and we have already had interest from people who want to use it for a meeting space as it is a fantastic conversation starter.”
The Rivers Hotel was taken over by the St Camillus Leisure in 2016 and underwent a £2m refurbishment before reopening as the 28-bedroom venue.
It is unique in the fact that it specialises in training young people with autism and learning difficulties, aiming to give them hands-on training and experience in the hospitality sector.
