Work commences on Macclesfield’s newest residential development

Peaks & Plains Housing Trust has officially broken ground on its latest residential development – Crossings – creating 67 new homes in partnership with Homes England.

Comprising a mix of high-quality one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, the scheme will offer Rent to Buy, Shared Ownership and private rent options, available from late 2021, featuring contemporary internal and external areas of communal space designed for modern living.

Conveniently located just five minutes’ walk from Macclesfield train station, Crossings is surrounded by an array of shops, bars and restaurants that encapsulate the proud independent spirit of the town, on the doorstep of the vibrant Sunderland Street area.

The new development on this brownfield site has been aptly named after its location, spanning the River Bollin, sitting on a crossroads where the Cheshire plains meet the foothills of the Peak District, and will breathe new life into the former site of a derelict industrial mill.

In a bid to keep the supply chain local to the North West, Peaks and Plains has appointed Stockport-based contractor Rowlinson to develop the site. The company has recently completed several schemes in the Macclesfield area for a mix of private clients, registered charitable organisations and social housing providers.

“As a local business, we know how eager people are to see progress on this site. Following the preparation and demolition, work is now starting in earnest to deliver these quality new homes. Rowlinson has a track-record in employing apprentices and using local suppliers wherever possible, making a valuable economic contribution to the communities in which we work,” said David Chilton, managing director at Rowlinson.
