Former army medic Sandra takes on new recruit to meet demand for oven cleaning

Former army medic Sandra Gee has recruited a subcontractor to cope with the increased demand experienced by her oven valeting business Ovenu Lytham – which launched just six months ago.

The 47-year-old has enlisted the help of Edward Miller, who previously worked as a commercial contract cleaner, struggling to make ends meet on a minimum wage zero hours contract.

Sandra, who met the 49-year-old and recognised his obvious skillset, promptly offered him a job as a subcontractor.

After completing the stringent Ovenu training programme, he is now working alongside Sandra to grow the business.

She said: “Having only started six months ago, I’ve been amazed how things have taken off as it was reaching a point where I was having to turn bookings down.

“I met Edward and saw how diligent and thorough he was in his work and offered him a job. He is now fully trained and I’m confident that together we can attract even more clients.

“While I don’t want to run before I can walk, there is so much potential to grow this business further, perhaps with another subcontractor.”

Edward, 49, who lives in Blackpool added: “I really was struggling to pay my way with office contract cleaning, so I’m grateful to Sandra for giving me an opportunity to advance my career and be my own boss.

“She explained her business was building quickly and that she just didn’t have enough hours in the day. Becoming a subcontractor was the perfect solution for both of us.”

Sandra previously operated an Ovenu franchise in Colwyn Bay but moved to Blackpool at the start of the year – using her experience in Wales to set up the new business from scratch.

Rik Hellewell, founder and managing director of the Ovenu franchise, said: “Sandra is the epitome of a successful franchisee, who has been able to quickly and successfully replicate this tried and tested business model in a new area.

“I look forward to continuing to support her in the future and I’m sure, with Edward’s valuable contribution, the business will go from strength to strength.”

Ovenu Lytham St Annes serves homes and businesses across Lytham and the surrounding areas.
