Post Office delivers higher figures with 17% income increase over Christmas
The Post Office has today announced that its income across the Christmas period increased by more than 15 per cent.
The postal service reported a £9.6m jump in network income in the period from 30 November to 27 December, representing a 17 per cent increase from £56.7m to £66.3m.
It also reported that despite the pandemic, its footfall was ‘consistent’ with the same period last year, with more than 51.3 million customer transactions.
The service said that its figures were largely driven by the growth in online retail.
Nick Read, chief executive of the Post Office, commented: “After a very challenging year for much of the retail sector, I am pleased to see 17 per cent growth in network income over the Christmas period thanks to the hard work of postmasters.
“The mails market, particularly for parcels, remains very strong driven by the growth in online retailing.
“Our physical presence has been vital across the UK, with customers enjoying the convenience, expert advice and safe hands that our postmasters offer, in addition to the invaluable support they have provided to local communities during the pandemic with 99 per cent of the network remaining open.”
