AI-powered research project puts workplace trends under the microscope

A groundbreaking new research initiative is set to reshape how UK businesses understand the modern workplace.

Led by Newcastle-based workspace specialist Workpattern in partnership with insight platform Audiem, The WorkPulse Project uses AI to uncover how employees really feel about where and how they work, from their physical workspace to technology provision and wider work culture.

The project launched earlier this year and has already received more than 1300 survey responses from employees across a cross-section of sectors and company sizes.

Powered by Audiem’s advanced analytics platform, WorkPulse analyses open-text feedback to reveal key themes shaping employee wellbeing, productivity and engagement – uncovering patterns that may not be immediately obvious through traditional data methods.

Paul Glaister, brand principal at Workpattern, said: “This is a project we’ve had in mind for a number of years but given the amount of noise in the market about the changing nature of workplaces, it feels like this is a perfect time to track those changing attitudes to give workplace professionals the trend analysis they need as they make key decisions about their workplace strategy.”

Ian Ellison, co-founder of Audiem, added: “When we built Audiem, we wanted to help workplace professionals unlock the hidden insights in rich, messy data sets.

“Working with Paul and the team on this and having the opportunity to begin mapping UK-based workplace trends is really exciting for us.

“We’ve already seen how powerful this data can be for workplace teams with our clients, but opening this up to a broader community of employees is going to be extraordinarily insightful, and we look forward to sharing insights regularly as the project progresses.”

To share its initial findings, Workpattern is hosting a free event at The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, in Gateshead, on April 29, where attendees will hear from Paul and Ian, as well as Mark Catchlove, director of insight at MillerKnoll.

Together, they’ll share new data from the project’s survey responses, discuss changing workplace attitudes and present global trends in hybrid working and employee wellbeing.

The event, which runs from 12pm to 2pm and includes lunch, presentations and networking, offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with industry experts, contribute to ongoing research and gather practical strategies to inform workplace design and policy.

The project’s findings will be published in an annual WorkPulse Annual Report later in the year, with interim insights released as the dataset continues to grow.
