STACK secures approval for venue expansion

A leisure developer has secured approval to expand a seaside venue.

STACK is adding a gaming hub to its base in Seaburn, Sunderland.

Bosses say the venture will include interactive shuffleboard and darts, karaoke booths, bowling, beer pong and pool tables.

It will build on the Seaburn site’s existing shipping container village, which includes street food outlets and bars.

The plans were approved by Sunderland City Council’s Planning and Highway Committee.

Neill Winch, STACK chief executive, said: “Sunderland seafront is a huge asset to the area and the region, and has always had a great deal to offer local residents and visitors.

“Being able to retain STACK Seaburn and expand our offering will make it even more attractive to everyone, which is not just good for us but for the local economy too.

“We look forward to being able to start work.”

The Wearside expansion comes just days after STACK was granted a five-year planning extension to continue operating a site outside Newcastle United’s St James’ Park.

STACK already operates sites in Lincoln and Middlesbrough, and is set to open another Newcastle base, at the city’s Worswick Chambers.

Further plans are in place to open sites in Durham, Bishop Auckland, Whitley Bay, Carlisle, Northampton, Manchester, Leeds, Wigan and Sheffield.
