Smurfs on track for summer fun
A national train company is marking the release of a new movie with a playful makeover.
Newcastle-headquartered operator Lumo has unveiled a Smurfs-themed electric train to celebrate the release of Paramount Animation’s latest film.
The colourful new look was revealed at London King’s Cross, with cast member Rylan, who plays ‘Vanity Smurf’ among the celebrity guests before a special VIP journey to Edinburgh.
Bosses say the partnership between Lumo and Paramount Pictures reflects a shared focus on sustainability, with Lumo’s fully electric fleet, which runs between Edinburgh and London via Morpeth, Newcastle and Stevenage, offering a lower-carbon alternative to flying.
Stuart Jones, managing director of Lumo, said: “Everyone at Lumo is very excited to be working with Paramount Pictures to spread the word about the brilliant new Smurfs movie.
“The Smurfs are well known for promoting sustainability and we’re proud to be green at heart as a company too.
“That, coupled with their iconic blue colour, made this the perfect partnership.
“I’m delighted with our new ‘Smurfs train’ and can’t wait for everyone to enjoy spotting it along our route this summer.”
The new Smurfs film, directed by Chris Miller and starring Rihanna and James Corden, hits cinemas this Friday (July 18).
