Law firm backs northern creative community

A law firm is supporting the northern creative sector.

B Corp commercial law firm Square One Law, which has offices in Newcastle, Leeds and Darlington, has partnered with The New Monday, a Channel 4-backed community supporting freelancers and small businesses in TV, film and the wider creative industries.

The initiative hosts networking and educational events to connect professionals, provide skills development and foster collaboration outside London, where most UK production spend remains concentrated.

Since launching in 2021, The New Monday has grown to over 1000 members and has hosted more than 40 events, building a strong northern creative network.

Square One Law, which has a long history of supporting the North’s creative economy, will sponsor the first New Monday event in the North East, on September 23 at The Tap Room, Full Circle Brewing, in Newcastle.

Charlotte Scott, organisation lead at The New Monday, said: “We’re delighted to partner with Square One Law to help creatives navigate the rapidly changing legal landscape to protect their businesses and work.

“Together, we’re building a creative ecosystem that empowers freelancers and businesses with the community, skills and industry connections they need to not just survive, but thrive.”

Gill Hunter, managing partner and commercial lawyer at Square One Law, added: “Square One Law is dedicated to supporting grassroots organisations that aim to have a positive impact on our community.

“The New Monday is proactively supporting a growing sector of creatives in an increasingly challenging industry, and we’re delighted to be part of this activity.”
