Plans approved for town's ex-rail land transformation
Plans have been approved to create a business and leisure hub on ex-railway land.
Fairbank Investments has been backed to redevelop former coal drop space and a signal house in Penistone, near Barnsley.
The operator says the work will deliver a “real turning point for the town” by “creating new opportunities for local people and businesses.”
The project will include 4000sq ft of restaurant and bar space, offices spanning 9000sq ft, four hybrid business units and retail areas.
Antony Green, managing director of Barnsley-based Fairbank Investments, said: “We’re absolutely delighted planning permission has been secured.
“Our vision is to preserve the significant heritage of the site while creating a space that brings activity, employment and opportunity back to this important location.
“We’re now ready to move forward and want to hear from businesses, investors and anyone who shares our enthusiasm for Penistone’s future.
“This is a once-in-a-generation chance to be part of something very special.”
Blacks Solicitors, in Leeds, acted on behalf of Fairbank Investments on the acquisition and site assembly issues.
Led by partner Andrew Pedley, its real estate team continues to provide advice on the development.
