Builder breaks ground on 60-home scheme
A builder has started work on a 60-property development.
Story Homes has broken ground on the Newlands Hurst scheme.
Set for the ex-Marley Tiles factory site near Ebchester on the Northumberland and County Durham border, bosses say the estate will “transform a disused industrial base into a thriving community”.
They add remediation work is now underway, with construction of the development’s four to six-bedroom properties earmarked for next year.
Amanda Stephenson, Story Homes North East’s head of land, said: “The start of remediation work marks a key milestone in the regeneration of this site.
“We’re proud to be transforming a disused industrial site into a thriving new community that reflects the character of the local area.”
She added the firm will deliver more than £1.2 million in community benefits, which will “support education, transport and open space improvements, as well as an offsite affordable housing contribution”.
The scheme is also set to provide a £300,000 bus service subsidy to boost connections to villages including Whittonstall, Dilston and Slaley.
