KAMO Barbers trims gap to success
A North East training academy is celebrating success in helping people build careers in the region’s barbering sector.
KAMO Barbers, which operates studios in Dunston, Durham and Newcastle’s Westgate Road, has reached a standout milestone with a 97 per cent employment rate for graduates from its KAMO Barber Academy.
The brand has built its reputation on technical precision, modern grooming trends and an inclusive ethos shaped by its motto: no ego, no pretence, no nonsense.
At the heart of its impact is the academy, which delivers accredited beginner and advanced courses designed to prepare students for real roles in professional barbershops rather than just qualifications.
Students train alongside experienced barbers at the flagship Westgate Road studio, gaining practical confidence, speed and customer-service skills in a live environment.
Founder Amy Hutchinson said: “We’re not just building a business - we’re building a community.
“KAMO was never just about haircuts; it’s about people.
“We’ve built a space where everyone feels welcome, respected and included.
“Community is at the heart of what we do.
“We’re here to support, teach and grow together.”
