Leeds law firm backs children’s charity
A Leeds-headquartered law firm is strengthening its community impact through a new charity partnership focused on supporting young people and social mobility.
Gordons has named Harehills-based children’s charity CATCH (Community Action To Create Hope) as its charity partner for the next 12 months.
The organisation works with more than 1000 young people each year, providing mentorship, positive activities and access to resources designed to help them reach their potential.
The partnership aligns with Gordons’ long-standing commitment to social mobility, including its legal apprenticeship scheme launched in 2011 to open up careers in law to young people regardless of background.
As part of the collaboration, Gordons employees, including apprentices and trainees, are already supporting CATCH through youth engagement activities.
Fundraising will also form a key part of the relationship, with plans including firm-wide events and participation in the Leeds 10K.
James Pearson, from CATCH Leeds, said: “Both organisations are like-minded and opportunity-focused, promoting the values of Gordons while driving the ambition of CATCH.
“Our partnership is opening new doors for young people and allowing aspiring lawyers to get an insight into real legal career pathways.”
Each year, Gordons’ employees choose a charity partner, with the firm raising more than £185,000 for good causes over the past decade.
Sarah Ratcliffe, partner and charity committee lead at Gordons, added: “Every day, the CATCH team provides young people with a safe space where they can engage with their wider community, have access to role models and learn practical skills and knowledge to set them up for the future.
“Gordons’ ongoing commitment to further enabling social mobility for young people complements the excellent work CATCH is doing.
“Our relationship has got off to a great start and we are looking forward to building on that over the next 12 months.”
