North Shields dental practice boosts capacity

A North Shields dental practice is undergoing a major refurbishment and expansion just one year after coming under new ownership.

Union Quay Dental, based in the Grade II-listed Richard Irvin building on the Fish Quay, is investing in upgraded facilities to increase clinical capacity and modernise patient areas.

The seven-surgery clinic, now under the ownership of Jarlath McAteer and Jamie Dury, is adding two new state-of-the-art treatment rooms, alongside enhanced digital equipment and reconfigured workspace to support a growing team.

The expansion will also see the recruitment of two additional dentists and support staff, boosting access to care at a time of ongoing regional demand.

Jarlath said: “We’ve always believed in the long-term future of this practice and of North Shields.

“This investment is about creating space to grow, improving patient experience, and ensuring we’re equipped with the very best clinical technology.”

Jamie added: “The Fish Quay is undergoing an exciting transformation, and we’re proud to be investing in one of its landmark buildings.

“This is about building something sustainable for the next generation of patients.”

Currently employing 32 staff, including seven dentists, the practice is set to complete the works by the end of March.
