Entries open for 2027 River Tyne calendar

A North East environmental charity is calling on photographers to help showcase one of the region’s most iconic waterways in a new fundraising campaign.

Tyne Rivers Trust has launched its annual photo competition for the 2027 charity calendar, inviting people to submit images capturing the River Tyne and its surrounding landscapes from sea to source.

Open to photographers of all ages and experience levels, the competition welcomes everything from professional landscape photography to smartphone wildlife snaps taken along the riverbanks.

The charity says the calendar has become a popular community project, with last year’s edition selling more than 100 copies to support its environmental work across the Tyne catchment.

Funds raised through calendar sales and sponsorship will go towards projects focused on improving water quality, protecting wildlife habitats and tackling the effects of climate change.

Businesses and organisations can also sponsor individual months within the calendar for £1000, with branding and company information included alongside the selected images.

Sophia Stovall, chief executive at Tyne Rivers Trust, said: “We were blown away by the quality of entries last year.

“For the 2027 calendar, we want to see even more of the diverse nature of our waterways, from the hidden tributaries to the iconic main river, the wildlife that calls the Tyne home, and the stunning landscapes that surround it.”

Tyne Rivers Trust is encouraging people to explore the river throughout the seasons in search of photographs that celebrate the landscape, wildlife and communities connected to the Tyne.
