Fitness equipment maker 'powers up' with staff move

A fitness apparatus maker is aiming to flex its muscles following a leadership change.

Innerva has switched to an employee ownership model.

Officials say the move “marks an exciting new chapter” for the power-assisted exercise equipment maker, which operates from a base in Slaithwaite, near Huddersfield.

They add it will “preserve the firm’s values and culture, protect its long-term future and reward those who have played such an important role in its success”.

Under the terms of the deal, former managing director Jon Hymus has become chief executive, with ex-boss Howard Blackburn stepping into an employee ownership trust corporate trustee and board advisor role.

Jon said: “Our people have been central to our success.

“Becoming employee-owned recognises their contribution and ensures the benefits of future success are shared by those who help create it.

“We are excited about the opportunities ahead.”

Howard added: “The decision to move to employee ownership has been made with great care and with the future of Innerva firmly in mind. 

“Employee ownership allows us to protect the culture, values and sense of purpose that have shaped Innerva over the last 35-plus years, while creating exciting opportunities for future growth.”

The business was advised on the deal by Stephen Newman and Emma Spragg, of Yorkshire-based Ramsdens Solicitors.
