Filtronic rockets to record £51 million SpaceX order
A technology firm has secured a record £50 million-plus deal to back Elon Musk’s aerospace adventure.
Filtronic is set to supply apparatus to SpaceX.
Officials say the £51.3 million agreement represents another “significant milestone” for the County Durham-headquartered company.
The deal smashes a previously unveiled £47.3 million alliance with the US-based rocket and spacecraft behemoth.
Under the terms of the deal, Filtronic – based at NETPark, in Sedgefield – will supply power amplifier units to SpaceX, which it is understood will be used in the latter’s Starlink constellation that uses low Earth orbit satellites to deliver high-speed internet connections.
The order is slated for delivery during the 2028 financial year.
Nat Edington, Filtronic chief executive, said: “This follow-on order is another significant milestone, providing extended order visibility and coverage over the next couple of years.
“This order provides further evidence of the growing importance of our technology in high-frequency communications and reinforces our position at the leading edge of this transition.
“This order also provides significant revenue visibility into the 2028 financial year and beyond, representing another important step for the business but also the continued development of our partnership with SpaceX.”
The agreement comes just days after Filtronic revealed a separate £5.9 million deal with an unnamed US-based customer to design, develop and build prototype units for satellite deployment.
Officials say the tie-up follows agreement worth more than £6 million with the same client and comes after Filtronic secured a string of further deals with operators including Airbus and Leonardo.
