Morgan Hunt leads the way with innovative approach to recruiting FE lecturers
What can be done to further enhance the recruitment and candidate vetting process in the FE sector? Morgan Hunt recruitment agency asked itself this very question and the answer was to enrol its further education consultants on a PTTLS teacher training course to obtain teaching qualifications.
Why? To support its consultants to better understand what makes a ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ FE teacher and equip them with the necessary tools to provide exceptional candidate and client service throughout the recruitment process.
This move demonstrates the agency’s commitment to innovative recruitment practice and continued efforts to deliver pioneering added value to its clients.
This latest measure was introduced by Morgan Hunt not only to ensure it provides the highest calibre candidates to the FE colleges the recruitment agency supports but to further align its recruitment process to the needs of the FE sector.
Morgan Hunt is the first recruitment agency to enrol its recruitment consultants on a teacher training course to enhance the recruitment process, with all consultants having now successfully completed the 12 week PTLLS qualification course which included intensive theory, several essays and the delivery of their own lesson plan.
Following the completion of the teaching qualifications, Morgan Hunt overhauled the interview and assessment process. Candidates applying for lecturing roles within FE colleges are now put through a more rigorous vetting process and are required to deliver a ‘micro-teach’ assessed by the qualified recruitment consultants.
This process allows Morgan Hunt to assess the quality and suitability of lecturers prior to them going on-site at a college, to gauge not only their subject knowledge and experience but also their teaching style and approach and cultural fit.
Sue Cooper, Managing Director, Morgan Hunt said:
“Morgan Hunt has an excellent reputation in the market for the high quality of candidates and added-value we offer our FE clients. As part of our commitment to our clients and candidates we are continually striving to find new, innovative ways to enhance our service offering. This latest initiative for our consultants to obtain teaching qualifications is yet another way for us to improve our recruitment practices. Our consultants now have the hands-on knowledge and experience of what is required in an outstanding candidate and we have tailored and enhanced our vetting and assessment process accordingly.
With the recent government decision to remove the requirement for a teaching qualification, this initiative is our way of addressing any potential impact this change might have by ensuring we continue to recruit the highest calibre candidate in the FE sector for our clients.“
