New restaurant to bring taste of Portugal to London’s Covent Garden
A new eatery specialising in Portuguese cuisine is set to open its doors in central London next month.
Volta do Mar - loosely translated as ‘return from the sea’ - is set to launch in a double fronted Georgian town house in Covent Garden.
Founded by husband and wife team Simon Mullins, formerly co-founder of the Salt Yard Group, and Isabel Almeida Da Silva, the restaurant will specialise in classic staples as well as dishes born of the country’s trading past and culinary interactions with countries such as Angola, Goa, Mozambique, Brazil and Macau.
Portugal-born chef George Tannock, who has worked at the likes of The Dorchester, The Fat Duck, Zuma, Treves & Hyde and most recently Sexy Fish, will join as head chef and work closely with Simon and Isabel to bring their vision to fruition.
As well as a first floor wooden panelled Georgian dining room, the restaurant will feature a downstairs seating area for 10 to 20 people, a bar and wine tasting room.
In addition to a range of dishes, the eatery will offer wines, spirits and cocktails, alongside traditional Portuguese coffee.
