Knights charges on with Rix & Kay Solicitors deal

A national professional services firm is expanding with a takeover.

Knights has agreed a deal to buy Rix & Kay Solicitors LLP.

Bosses say the move – completed for an undisclosed sum – will add 33 lawyers to Knights’ team and boost its presence across Kent and Sussex.

The deal is expected to officially complete on August 1.

Under the terms of the agreement, Rix & Kay staff – who provide support across areas including corporate, commercial property, disputes and private client work – will switch from offices in Hove; Uckfield, in East Sussex; and Hadlow, near Tonbridge, to Knights’ bases in Brighton and Kings Hill.

The deal follows Knights’ multi-million-pound moves for Thursfields and IBB Law, and a £16.6 million agreement for Essex-based law firm Birkett Long.

David Beech, chief executive at Knights – whose UK-wide office portfolio includes sites in Newcastle, Leeds, Birmingham, Nottingham and Oxford – said: “The Rix & Kay team brings an excellent reputation and lots of complementary expertise.

“They are well known for great service and their culture and operational model make this an excellent fit.”

Richard Cripps, Rix & Kay managing partner, added: “I know our fee-earning colleagues will thrive in a bigger and better resourced business.

“We’re all excited to be joining new colleagues in Brighton and Kings Hill as we come together to provide a wider array of premium legal services to clients.”

Knights’ office estate stretches across the UK, from Carlisle and Stockton to Leeds, Sheffield and York.

It has further bases in Cheltenham, Chester, Leicester, Portsmouth, Stoke, Weybridge and Wilmslow.
