Filtronic adds to defence work with £13.4 million deal
A technology firm has bolstered its defence sector order book with a £13.4 million deal.
Filtronic is set to supply parts for an electronic sensor system.
Bosses say the company will oversee the “complex manufacture and testing of critical components” for an unnamed client.
Parts – which will be built and tested at Filtronic’s microelectronics base at NETPark, in Sedgefield, County Durham – will be delivered from next summer.
Nat Edington, chief executive, said: “We are proud to continue strengthening our defence portfolio, which highlights the market’s ongoing confidence in our ability to execute complex programmes to the highest standards.
“Aerospace and defence remains a key sector in our growth strategy, and this latest order reflects our track record of successful project delivery, collaborative partnerships and manufacturing excellence.”
The contract builds on strong financial results at the firm after blue-ribbon agreements more than doubled revenues.
Officials last month revealed they expect earnings to rise to £56.3 million in the year to May 31, with adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation coming in three times higher at £16.6 million.
The upbeat outlook followed a number of headline projects, including a £24 million contract to supply power amplifiers to Elon Musk’s SpaceX interstellar venture.
The firm also recently secured a contract to provide “critical components” for defence operator Leonardo’s Active Electronically Scanned Array radar systems.
And it announced a further deal to supply equipment to Airbus Defence and Space to support satellite production for Eutelsat OneWeb.
